The Shortcut to Freedom From the Grind - Take This Route

For the last 10 years, I’ve walked the same trail in the hills behind my place in Bulgaria. I know every step, every slope, every bend in the path. And every time I reached the top—without thinking—I’d turn right. Yesterday, I turned left. **New Direction, New Discovery** It wasn’t a grand plan. I didn’t set out to do anything adventurous or life‑changing. I just made a different choice. And what I found? It wasn’t just surprising—it felt like a gift. 🐝 *Down a path I had never explored before were four beautiful beehives—brimming with life, purpose and productivity.* 🐝 They were quietly tucked away, at peace in their little ecosystem, and they were being cared for with clear intention. Now if you’ve been following me, you’ll know that beekeeping has become a new (and often infuriating!) hobby of mine—part nature, part science, part patience test. These tiny beings, classed as livestock, contribute enormously to the ecosystem and remind me how small, consistent effort creates global ripple effects. **Take the Risk – The Unexpected is Often Perfect** *“Sometimes the path you never take leads straight to the thing you didn’t know you needed.”* That moment, standing behind the hive (always come at risk from behind—life lessons there too), made me reflect on how often we stick to what’s familiar—not because it’s best, but because it’s *known*. And that got me thinking about business, about growth, and about the incredible humans who join our **coaching franchise**. So many people join us not because everything in their life is broken—but because they realise they’ve been turning right, over and over again, hoping the view might change. It won’t. The real change comes when you take the uncomfortable turn. When you stop saying “maybe one day” and decide “today.” **Risk is Where the Magic Lives** The honey bees I found are just a metaphor—but a powerful one. They don’t overthink. They get to work. They produce, they pollinate, they create impact far beyond what their tiny bodies suggest. This is exactly what stepping into a **coaching franchise** is like. You might start small—just a walk off the usual path—but what you’ll discover is that you're contributing something essential. Something scalable. Something sweet. You’ll find your own rhythm. You’ll connect with others doing the same. You’ll stop waiting for someone else to make the change—and *you’ll become the one who does.* I’ve walked the same route for years, thinking I’d seen it all. I hadn’t. What I found when I finally turned left was not just a delight. It was a message. **The Coaching Journey Isn’t Straight – And That’s a Good Thing** It’s easy to convince ourselves that predictability equals safety. But in growth—in coaching, in business, in life—it’s the turns, the unknowns, and the small moments of bravery that reveal the gold. So what’s your “left turn”? What are you ignoring because the right turn feels easier? What magic are you missing? If you’re circling the idea of a **coaching franchise**, consider this your sign. Not because the right path is wrong, but because the *other* path might be better than you imagined. All it takes is one choice—one shift in direction—and suddenly, you’re surrounded by potential you never knew was waiting for you. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

Why Your First Session Matters More Than the Fifth

It’s easy to believe that the fifth, tenth, or even twentieth session is where transformation really takes place. But what if I told you that the *most important session* is actually the very first one – even if it’s free? **Why Consultations Are the Cornerstone of Change** In our coaching franchise programmes, we often hear franchisees undervalue the initial consultation. It’s seen as a formality, a precursor to the "real work." But the truth is, if done well, the consultation is where 90% of the work is already done. **"When you sell someone on hope and belief, you’ve already sold the result."** That’s why our training places so much focus on this part of the process. It's not just about checking boxes. It's about guiding clients into a powerful emotional state – one that makes transformation inevitable. Your first job isn’t to fix their problem. It’s to *show them* that the problem is fixable. **The Healing Begins with Belief** Years ago, I slipped while abroad and fractured my ankle. I came back to the UK to see a surgeon. The first one was clinical and cold. He told me I’d need surgery, pins, a long recovery, and that my foot would never be the same again. I didn’t doubt his skill, but his prognosis felt heavy and hopeless. That was not the future I planned for myself. Luckily, I had private healthcare. I got a second opinion. The next surgeon looked at the same X-rays and said: "This will heal fast. You’ll be weight-bearing in a week. No surgery. It’s going to be perfect." And just like that, I felt strong. Capable. Hopeful. *Even if I had needed surgery, I would’ve wanted it from the second guy.* Because he saw me as someone who could heal – and I believed him. And that’s exactly the kind of influence we want to have in that very first session with our clients. **You’re Not Solving the Problem – You’re Selling the Possibility** You don’t need to give them the solution in your consultation. You need to give them belief. That’s the seed. From there, clients are more likely to: - Return for paid sessions - Engage deeply with the work - Trust in their own capacity to change This is why our coaching franchise doesn’t leave consultations to chance. We give you exact scripts and question structures to follow – not to manipulate, but to inspire. Because when people leave their first session with you, they shouldn’t feel the issue is solved. They should feel certain it’s solvable. **The Coaching Franchise Advantage** We don’t guess our way through consultations. We train for them like they’re the main event – because they *are*. If you’re part of a coaching franchise like People Building, this is the stuff that sets you apart. It’s not just tools and techniques – it’s the ability to help someone see a different version of their future from the moment they sit down with you. That’s power. That’s impact. And it all starts with your very first words. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

The Micro Habit That Could Rewire Your Week

If this is something you want to change – keep listening. Most people fail at building new habits not because they’re weak, but because they start too big. Your brain is wired to avoid effort and seek easy rewards. That means even when you logically know change isn’t a “mammoth task”, it can feel like one. Why Small Beats Big Every Time Think about the last time you tried to overhaul your lifestyle. Maybe you promised yourself you’d stop eating sugar, hit the gym five times a week, or meditate every morning. It probably lasted a few days – if that. The reason? Your brain defaulted to the path of least resistance. Micro habits bypass that resistance. They’re so small your brain can’t argue with them, yet over time, they create momentum. Change doesn’t start with running a marathon – it starts with tying your trainers once a day. Choose Just One Micro Habit This Week Here’s your challenge: pick one tiny habit this week and lock it in. Don’t overcomplicate it. Here are a few ideas: A one-line journal each evening. Open the Notes app and type one sentence about what you did well today. Hydration by stealth. Every time you open a new email, take a sip of water. Hit two litres without even noticing. Five mindful breaths a day. Bolt it onto something you already do, like waiting for the kettle or yes, even sitting on the loo (helpful if you’ve nailed the two-litre water habit 😂). Once the micro habit feels automatic, add another. Slowly, you start chipping away at the iceberg without overwhelming yourself. Why Micro Habits Actually Work The psychology is simple. Every completed micro habit gives your brain a dopamine reward – the same hit you’d get from scrolling social media or munching biscuits. But now the reward is attached to progress, not sabotage. This is why one biscuit every four hours is more effective long-term than banning biscuits entirely. You’re hacking your own reward system instead of fighting it. When you compound small wins, you get big shifts – without the burnout of “all or nothing” thinking. What This Teaches About Life and Business The same principle applies beyond health or stress management. At People Building, this is exactly how we help clients make change stick. And it’s the foundation of how our coaching franchise works too. Franchisees don’t need to conquer the entire market on day one. They start with one micro action – one talk, one client, one referral – and then compound. Before long, they’ve built a coaching business that feels effortless because it grew step by step. The truth is, whether you’re tackling anxiety, bad habits, or building a career, it’s not about radical overnight transformation. It’s about momentum. And momentum is born from micro habits. So here’s my challenge to you: don’t wait for the “perfect time” to make a big change. That day doesn’t come. Choose one micro habit this week. Nail it. Then choose the next. That’s how lives change. That’s how businesses grow. And that’s how you stop failing and start moving forward. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

From Beekeeper to Business Builder – The £1,000 Contract I Didn’t See Coming

If you want real change in your business – you need to start looking at the connections right under your nose. Most people don’t, and that’s why they lose money without ever realising it. The Story of Bees and Business In case I haven’t mentioned it before, I’m a beekeeper 🐝. I keep my hives in a beautiful spot called Boxmoor Trust. I’ve actually been connected with them for over a decade. For years, I used their Conference Centre for training and team get-togethers. We were such regulars that when they reintroduced water voles back into the local river, one of them was named “Gemma” after me. That’s my bizarre claim to fame. Then lockdown happened, and everything shifted online. My link with the Boxmoor Trust dwindled, and I felt a little sad about that. But here’s where life threw me a curveball. Beekeeping led me right back to them – and it ended up being worth far more than honey ever could. From Hives to High-Value Work As my garden filled with bee swarms, I needed somewhere to house a couple of hives. So, I approached Boxmoor Trust. They gave me a patch of land for my apiary. It was a generous offer, but the bigger twist was still to come. Because the team there already knew me and understood the work I do, when it came time for their land rangers to complete mandatory training in communication and rapport, they thought of me. Out of nowhere, I was invited in to train them. That single training day – just nine till four – brought in £1,000. One Opportunity Breeds Another Here’s the thing. That training wasn’t a one-off. They invited me back a second time, this time to teach state management. Then they asked again for a third session in the same year. What started as a casual link through venue hire and bees turned into repeat contracts worth thousands of pounds. This is the reality when you run a business that feels alive. Opportunities don’t always come from where you expect – but if you’re visible and enthusiastic, they start finding you. Why This Matters to You This is exactly what running a coaching franchise is about. You don’t always need to “hard sell” or chase opportunities in cold, corporate ways. Sometimes, it’s the relationships you’ve already built, or the communities you’re already part of, that bring the biggest wins. But here’s the uncomfortable truth: most people miss these chances. They sit in the same venues, talk to the same people, show no energy for what they do – and then wonder why their businesses stay small. If you’re not radiating the kind of enthusiasm that makes others curious, you’re invisible. When you join a coaching franchise like People Building, you’re not just learning techniques for clients. You’re also learning how to carry yourself in the world so that opportunities recognise you before you even pitch. The contract you land tomorrow might come from the places you least expect – but only if you’re ready and visible. That’s why my bees earned me more than honey. They earned me business. And if you play it right, your “bees” – the overlooked hobbies, connections, and communities around you – can become income streams too. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to stop letting opportunities pass you by, this is it. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

Why Hypnotherapy Still Outshines NLP – And What That Means for You

Opportunities have a habit of vanishing if you hesitate. Our Hypnotherapy Diploma training only takes place once a year, which means if you miss it now, you’ll be left waiting a full twelve months before you can try again. For many people, that’s an entire year of lost income, lost growth, and lost chances to establish themselves in one of the most respected therapeutic fields available today. Why Hypnotherapy Holds More Weight When people compare the NLP coaching franchise with our hypnotherapy training, there’s something few ever say out loud. Hypnotherapy has time on its side. Recognised by the British Medical Council since the 1940s, it has decades of clinical credibility. By contrast, NLP only began in the 1970s, which makes it a relative newcomer. If you walked up to a stranger in the street and asked, “Do you know what hypnotherapy is?” ninety-nine per cent would say yes. Ask them about NLP, and you’ll be lucky if forty per cent can give you a clear answer. This immediate recognition means you don’t need to waste precious time educating people about whether hypnotherapy is “real” or “legitimate.” The public already understands its power. This isn’t just about training, it’s about credibility – the kind of credibility that opens doors and wins clients faster. The Science and the Status Hypnotherapy is not just well-known, it is well-studied. There is a wealth of clinical evidence proving its effectiveness, and unlike many alternative approaches, it carries the weight of medical endorsement. Psychiatrists can even choose hypnotherapy as a supplementary training module, meaning it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with established medical practice. This is why graduates from our diploma don’t just gain a listing on the UK Hypnotherapy Register. They also become eligible to treat clients whose sessions are funded by private medical insurance. That’s not something every therapeutic modality can offer. How the Training Works Our diploma is delivered in three modules across three months. Each module is a certification in its own right, so you can purchase them separately at £3000 each, or complete the full programme for your diploma-level qualification. Unlike most courses, you are not financially penalised if you choose to pay module by module. What makes this training unique is the support structure around it. You receive lifetime access to the training platform, which means whenever new evidence or practices emerge in the industry, your content updates automatically. You also gain lifetime access to practice groups, where you can sharpen your skills in a supportive environment. And if you choose to expand into a coaching franchise, your retraining is completely free for the duration of your licence. Why Now, Not Later Here is the painful truth: if you miss this training, you’ll wait another year. That’s twelve months of lost potential clients, twelve months of skills left unused, twelve months of watching others step into a thriving field while you stand still. The hypnotherapy diploma isn’t just another qualification. It’s a fast track to credibility, income, and a place in a field that carries recognition at every level – from private clients to medical professionals. Don’t wait for another year to pass you by. This is your moment. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

The Secret Cost of People-Pleasing – And How to Stop It

If you’ve ever said “yes” when you were screaming “no” inside, you’ll know the exact kind of damage I’m talking about. People-pleasing looks polite on the surface, but underneath it quietly wrecks your sleep, your focus, your income and your self-respect. It’s the hidden tax you keep paying for the illusion of being liked. The Price of Being a People-Pleaser When you agree to things you don’t want to do, you sign up for exhaustion, resentment and poor boundaries. Studies show that over 52% of adults admit struggling to say no in fear they'll let others down. The result? Burnout, fractured relationships and the creeping belief that your needs matter less than everyone else’s. The truth is, people-pleasing isn’t kindness. It’s self-sabotage disguised as goodwill. It can stall careers, crush creativity and cost you thousands in lost opportunities. Imagine trying to run a business, lead a team or even grow a coaching franchise while bending to every demand. The maths doesn’t work – something will break, and it will usually be you. Learning to Say No Without Guilt Here’s the good news: there is a simple way out. I use and teach a three-step script that makes setting boundaries clear, calm and respectful. Buy time: “Let me check my capacity and get back to you tomorrow.” State a boundary, not a biography: “I am at capacity this week, so I will pass.” Offer one controlled alternative: “If you still need help next Friday, I can give you 30 minutes between 1 and 1:30.” This structure means you avoid knee-jerk “yeses”, you stop over-explaining, and you keep control of your own diary. Key takeaway sentence for image placement: Training your nervous system to tolerate small waves of someone else’s disappointment is how you get your life back. That discomfort lasts minutes. Resentment can last years. The Nervous System’s Role in People-Pleasing Why is it so hard to stop saying yes? Because your nervous system is wired to see rejection and disappointment as threats. It’s the same survival programming that once helped humans stay in the tribe. Today, though, it’s outdated. Saying “no” doesn’t risk banishment, it risks a slightly awkward silence – and yet your body reacts as if you’re facing a tiger. The trick is exposure. Each time you set a small boundary, you train your nervous system to handle discomfort. What feels terrifying the first time feels tolerable the tenth. Slowly, your system learns the truth: you can survive someone else’s frown. Boundaries are the gateway to freedom – not chains that keep you small. From People-Pleasing to Purpose-Living If you’re serious about building a sustainable career, whether that’s in leadership, therapy or a coaching franchise, learning to say “no” is non-negotiable. Without boundaries, you’ll never protect the time and energy needed to do your best work. Remember this: people-pleasing steals your future. Every “yes” you hand out without thought is time you’ll never get back. Every drained evening, every broken promise to yourself, every quiet resentment – all because you wanted to avoid a few minutes of discomfort. Take the script. Practise it. Use it. You’ll feel resistance at first, but then comes relief, power and the sweet taste of self-respect. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise

The Client I REFUSED to Help

Most of the time, when someone walks through my door, I can help them. Whatever the problem – stress, anxiety, confidence, even weight loss – I can usually find the tools to make a difference. But there are rare occasions when the most ethical thing I can do is say “no.” This is the story of one of those times. When Weight Loss Isn’t Really About Weight A woman had contacted my office asking for help with weight loss. She explained to my colleague Leslie on the phone that her family had always struggled with obesity, and she was determined not to go down the same path. Over the past year, she’d started eating more sweets and unhealthy foods, and as a result, she’d gained weight. She wanted therapy to help her get back on track. So far, it sounded like a typical case. But when she walked through the door, I felt a wave of confusion. This woman wasn’t just slim – she was thin. Sometimes, what a client says and what they actually need are two very different things. The Delusion Beneath the Surface Sitting in the consultation, she repeated her story: her family were obese, she had worked hard to stay healthy, but now she felt she had lost control. Yet as I listened, I couldn’t reconcile her words with what I saw. This wasn’t a woman who needed to lose weight. This was a woman whose self-perception had become distorted. To agree to help her “lose weight” would have been like a Hollywood surgeon telling an actress with a face already stretched and altered beyond recognition that another nose job was a great idea. It would have been collusion with a delusion. And that, for me, was the line I couldn’t cross. True therapy isn’t about giving clients what they ask for. It’s about giving them what they really need – even if it’s not what they want to hear. The Ethical Dilemma I decided to take a different approach. I explained my discomfort in focusing on weight loss directly. I could not, in good conscience, support a belief that might lead her towards harm. Instead, I guided her through a session of hypnotherapy that targeted avoiding unhealthy foods – not because she needed to be thinner, but because it’s always sensible to make healthier choices. I deliberately refused to tie the outcome to the number on a scale. Did she get what she originally came for? No. Did she get what she truly needed? Yes. Sometimes the best help is the help that challenges someone’s assumptions. The Bigger Picture for Coaches Why am I sharing this story? Because in the world of personal development, coaching, and therapy, ethical boundaries matter more than quick wins. A coaching franchise isn’t just about filling a diary with paying clients. It’s about doing the right thing, even when that means turning someone away or redirecting their focus. This is one of the reasons our coaching franchise exists – to ensure practitioners are supported in making these tough calls. When you’re part of a franchise, you’re not alone in facing dilemmas like this. You have guidance, structure, and a team to back you up when you need to make a decision that prioritises ethics over income. And sometimes, those decisions are what define you as a professional. by Gemma Bailey (with the help of Ai) https://www.peoplebuilding.co.uk/franchise
